The Performance Clutches Stage 2 Sport Single Mass Flywheel Kit is designed for BMW E36 and E46 applications where increased torque capacity and sharper drivetrain response are required without sacrificing everyday usability. As a hybrid performance setup, it offers the additional strength needed for modified engines while retaining controlled engagement for fast road and track use.
At the centre of the kit is a 7.2kg lightweight 4140 forged steel single mass flywheel, designed to reduce rotational inertia compared with the factory dual-mass setup. The lower rotating mass allows the engine to rev more freely, improving throttle response, acceleration, and shift speed. The integral ring gear construction also provides excellent strength and resistance to heat distortion.
The clutch assembly uses a QT450 steel pressure plate, providing increased clamping force and consistent performance through repeated high-temperature cycles. With 60–120% higher clamping load, the Stage 2 Sport kit offers significantly increased torque capacity compared with typical aftermarket clutch systems.
The key to its balanced character is the segmented ceramic friction material combined with a marcel spring assembly. The ceramic segments provide excellent heat resistance and strong torque capacity, while the marcel spring adds progressive cushioning between the friction surfaces. This gives the clutch a strong, positive engagement without the abrupt characteristics of a fully rigid competition clutch.
