When increasing power and torque on the Type R, additional heat becomes a major concern. During extended periods of hard driving, coolant temperatures can rise enough to trigger the ECU’s safety functions, reducing torque or even forcing the car into limp mode. To tackle this, AIRTEC set out to develop a solution that strengthens the car’s cooling system and maintains performance under pressure.
Developed in-house at AIRTEC HQ in the UK, the Turbo Cooler is designed to manage heat more efficiently within the turbocharger circuit. Fitting neatly behind the radiator, it integrates directly into the cooling system to reduce the temperature of the coolant before it re-enters the turbo, the hottest part of the engine. The result is increased cooling capacity and stability, allowing the car to maintain consistent performance even during track use or spirited driving.
Designed to work alongside AIRTEC’s intercooler, oil cooler, and gearbox cooler, the turbo cooler forms part of the ultimate cooling package for the FL5 platform. The kit includes a laser-cut, powder-coated bracket, high-quality Pro Hoses silicone lines, and all fixtures, fittings, and instructions for easy installation. Please note: this kit is not compatible with aftermarket radiators.
